Summer Yoga Schedule: New Classes, New Teacher!

It’s our favorite time of year at Stone Turtle Yoga! The time we get to enjoy longer and warmer days, offer more classes, practice at the Stone Turtle Day Lodge, and see our “summer” yoga friends return. This year we are super excited to add a couple of classes to the existing schedule, as well as a new teacher!

New Classes start week of June 5th

Yin Yoga

Starting the week of June 5th, join us Wednesday nights at 7:45pm for Yin Yoga with Jan Chaney. This mellow, ultra-relaxing class involves gentle, primarily seated and lying-down poses held for longer periods. Bolsters, blocks and blankets are used for support ,and facilitate deeper relaxation. Yin yoga is a slow and soothing nectar that is deeply resourcing and rejuvenating – a salve for the busy-ness of everyday life! We wanted to offer this evening class late enough to accommodate the long summer days and evenings, allow enough time for people to eat dinner beforehand, and for parents to put young kiddos to bed, but still get people home before sunset. We hope you will join us and let us know what you think!

Kundalini Yoga

We are very excited to report that we have a NEW teacher joining the Stone Turtle crew, and she’ll be teaching a NEW class! Michelle Fite will be teaching Kundalini Yoga on Saturdays at 10:00am starting June 11th. Join Michelle for the quintessential Kundalini Yoga experience: Each class includes warm-ups, breathing techniques (Pranayama), an exercise set (Kriya), deep relaxation, chanting, and meditation. Experience yourself deeply and notice a transformation toward physical strength and health, heightened awareness, mental clarity, and happiness. All levels welcome.

Also starting the week of June 6th, Mariah Frye returns to the studio to take over Tuesday Hatha Yoga at 10:00am. And stay tuned for Saturday morning 9:00am Beach Yoga with Laurie starting later this month at the South Higgins Lake State Park.

New Teacher Michelle Fite

Michelle Fite began her yoga and meditation studies in 1998 in Tempe, Arizona. Upon returning to Michigan, she studied Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga with Jonny Kest at Center for Yoga in Birmingham from 2000 to 2001, where she also received her training in Vipassana and Guided meditation. After completing her teacher training, she opened Sangha Yoga in Detroit’s Eastern Market, where she offered several different types of yoga and meditation classes daily for her community. During this time, she also conducted Sunrise Hatha Yoga and meditation at her raw vegetarian cafe and juice bar in Palmer Park, Detroit. Since leaving Detroit, Michelle’s interest in yoga has expanded to include Kundalini, Restorative, Tantra, and Luna (women specific) yoga. She is also skilled in Pranayama, Yoga Mudra, and Qi Gong.
