Thai Yoga Workshop + Live Music Restorative Yoga!

Back for their second year in a row, experienced guest teachers Richard Brookens and Barbara Sloan will be leading two upcoming yoga classes/workshops at Stone Turtle Yoga!

Thai Yoga Partner Workshop with Richard Brookens*
Saturday, June 25th
2:00pm – 4:00pm

Thai Yoga is a unique body work modality from Thailand based in Yoga poses and principles. It is sometimes called “lazy man’s yoga” because the teacher does most of the work, bringing the clients body into gentle Yoga poses, creating space and a deep release by stretching, rolling, and shaking different body parts as the client lays on their back, stomach or side on a mat. No previous knowledge of Yoga is required though it is helpful. Working with your own breath is all that you need to do to attain a deep release while experiencing the delights of Thai Yoga!

In this workshop we will pair up, so come with a friend or meet someone there to work with. Similar height and weight between people will be most advantageous, but not necessary for a good Thai experience. Please wear long pants and a comfortable shirt that you can move in. Richard will demonstrate each pose and then assist each couple as needed. We will all learn to receive AND give the poses instructed, so you will not only learn a lot, but also feel amazing afterwards! Cost: $20

*Richard is available for 1-on-1 Thai Yoga Massage upon request. Email mariahfrye<at>gmail.com for more details (FYI – it’s amazing!!).

Welcoming Dianne South, RYT200 to the Stone Turtle Yoga team!

We are beyond excited to welcome Dianne South to the Stone Turtle Yoga teaching team! Dianne has been a student at STY since the beginning, and she recently completed her 200 hour teacher training at Yen Yoga in Traverse City. She will begin teaching at Stone Turtle Yoga by subbing two classes this week: Thursday evening (tonight) Hatha II + Meditation, and Friday morning Hatha Yoga in Higgins Lake (please note Friday’s class this week will be at 9:00am instead of 10:30). Dianne will start teaching regularly next week with Hatha Yoga on Thursdays at 9:00am.

Dianne’s Bio:

About Dianne:

Yoga has been seeking me for many years, but it wasn’t until I retired from corporate America and moved to Northern Michigan in 2008 that I truly discovered the power of a regular yoga practice.

I was blessed to find a sanctuary for the growth of my own practice through the gentle guidance of my mentor, Mariah Frye Colie, and as a result was inspired to pursue my 200-RYT. Transformed by the experience of yoga teacher training, I am excited to be a part of the exploding Yoga culture in America and hope to encourage others, regardless of age, to discover the tremendous benefits to be realized through the practice of Yoga. I would like to see children exposed to Yoga at a young age, so we may have a future of Yogis who can experience a lifetime of what it took me so long to find!

My goal is to continue my Yoga training at every opportunity, and expect much of that will come from my students! My teaching focus is designing classes accessible to all experience levels and to provide my students with a safe, fun and inviting environment in which to grow.

In addition to Yoga, I enjoy riding the trails with by “boy”, Rebel, a Quarter horse gelding; golfing, fly-fishing, kayaking reading and spending time with my wonderful grandchildren.

I am blessed to share my life with my best friend and husband of 42 years, Gary, who has always provided me great support and encouragement.

“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” – Buddha
