Yoga/Bad Weather Class Cancellation Policy

Happy New Year, friends!

We hope everyone had a great holiday, and also found some time for reflection. With the Solstice and New Year celebration signaling transition, taking quiet time to be with oneself and allow for inner communication sets the stage for more meaningful action and interaction. For us, it also yields profound gratitude, and with that, we want to thank you all for being a part of the STY community and sharing your light. We are honored to share space with you, and are endlessly grateful for the joy and presence you bring to us and those around you. Thank you, thank you.

Also with this time of year comes iffy driving conditions, which can impact one’s ability to make it to yoga class! Due to occasionally hazardous driving conditions in the winter months, we have decided to institute a class cancellation policy that corresponds with school closings:

If school is closed in a particular school district, class in that same district is also cancelled *for morning classes only*.

For example, if school in Roscommon is closed, morning class in Higgins Lake would be cancelled in Higgins Lake only, but evening class would still occur (unless otherwise communicated).

If school in Grayling is closed, morning class would be cancelled for that day in Grayling only.

You can always call or text Mariah at 989-302-7928 to find out if class is cancelled or not. View the full Stone Turtle Yoga class schedule here: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/mainclass?studioid=29064

Peace and gratitude to all! See you soon 🙂

-Mariah, Lexi, Amy, Dianne, and Patty

PS – there was a glitch with MindBody last week that showed no Hatha Yoga class last Friday in Higgins Lake at 10:30. This has been corrected, and that class is back on the schedule!

Winter Solstice Celebration – FREE Candlelit Yoga with Patty Clark!

Date: Wednesday, December 21st
Time: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Location: Higgins Lake studio (Gerrish Township Municipal Building)

Everyone is invited to join in a candlelit yoga practice, that will include both active (yang) and restorative (yin) poses with seasoned yoga teacher, Patty Clark. It will also include breath work and meditation to cultivate balance as we honor our connection to this season. We’ll end the evening socializing with ginger cookies and yogi tea. This is a free class, and donations will be accepted to benefit the River House Inc., a non-profit agency that serves victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in four northern Michigan counties.

About Patty

Patty recently moved to Grayling full-time from lower Michigan. She is, among other things, a yoga teacher, nature lover, and wise, kind spirit. Her teaching style is light-hearted, sincere, and easy to understand, and reflects a deep understanding of yoga on both a physical and spiritual level. We are beyond excited to have Patty graciously teach this very special Solstice class, and share her nearly 20 years as a yoga teacher with our community. Below is her bio, written in her words. Let’s give her a warm welcome!

Patty Clark - Stone Turtle Yoga

Patty Clark

Just pay attention to your breath and notice what’s going on inside you without feeling like you have to change it, just sit with yourself”.  These were my father’s words to me as he taught me at age 10 the practice of pranayama and meditation.  He wasn’t a yoga teacher but a vice cop who taught himself what seemed like a natural response to the stresses in his life.  This was the catalyst and introduction to what has been and continues to be an incredible journey.

Diagnosed with degenerative disc disease at age 15,  I came to asana as way to manage pain. I became certified in 1999 when I completed Jonny Kest’s Center for Yoga Teacher Training.  Since then, I’ve taught over  1,000 hours and am registered with the Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, ERYT.  Initially, I founded Dragonfly Yoga in Cleveland, OH.  My teaching included all levels and conditions of student’s at my studio as well as The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and University Hospitals.  I most recently taught classes and workshops throughout Northern Oakland County, MI and I have hosted amazing river/yoga retreats in Grayling, MI.

I’ve been fortunate to study, practice and be inspired by teachers locally and nationally.  I’ve also learned so much from my students as well as self study. My biggest influences are Patanjali, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi, Judith Lasater,  Bob Marley, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra and Mother Nature.
We look forward to seeing you tonight! View the class schedule and sign up ahead of time by visiting https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/admhome?studioid=29064
