TOMORROW: Don’t miss October Essential Oils Workshop!

There is still some space left for our Essential Oils + Yoga: October Workshop tomorrow, October 5th at The Gift in Grayling. Click here to pre-regiester and save $5!

In this workshop, which meets on the first or second Wednesday of each month, we will delve into our profoundly powerful sense of scent, and use it to tap into a deep level of balance and well-being during our yoga practice. Each month’s yoga practice and essential oils are different, and are based on what we need to bring balance into our lives for the time of year.

The workshop begines with an introduction of the oils we will use throughout the class, as well as their unique properies and benefits. Then, Mariah will lead a rejuvenating and relaxing yoga class, which is specifically created to coincide with the oils. These top-grade essential oils are applied aromatically, and topically throughout class by essential oil specialist, Nicole Mygrants. This class is inspired by the season, so it involves different oils and asanas each month. Each class is designed to leave students feeling regenerated, empowered, and balanced. This 90 minute workshop is open to all levels!

About Erin:

Yoga has floated in-and-out of my life since 1999, but my love for yoga stuck when it helped relieve my chronic migraines and depression/anxiety related to infertility.  It also served as a lifeline while working on behalf of individuals reentering the community from the criminal justice system.  Yoga helped me meet clients where they were at (emotionally, spiritually, energetically) and to just be present with them in that space.  While living Grand Rapids, I fell in love with Bapitste’s power hot yoga philosophy and a seed was planted…”maybe one day I could be a teacher.”  I noticed I felt awesome after doing the asanas.  Though, it became more that that, my husband calls me the “Pusherman of Yoga,” referencing the Curtis Mayfield song.  It’s true, yoga is like a drug for me; it started as a love of the postures, then came the breath, now the mind, body, spirit…yoga has infiltrated my life.  After moving to Gaylord, the owners of Yoga-45 Lynne and Amy were super supportive and helped me make the decision, to take the plunge, to do the 200-hour training course.  I was trained at Yen Yoga in Traverse City, in hatha yoga, under two amazing women, Jenny Lintvedt and Heidi Dietrich.  Completing the 200-hour training has made me realize there is still so much more to learn.  I will always be a student, humbly learning from those around me; always knowing my two greatest teachers in life will be my children.  I’m looking forward to going on this journey with yogis in the Gaylord community, and grateful for the opportunity to teach with such a beautiful group of people.  the essence of yoga is the union of mind, body, spirit; I hope when individuals leave a class I guide, their body feels strong, their mind feels peaceful and their soul shines bright.  Om Shanti, Om Peace, Namaste.

Schedule of events:

8:30am – 9:00am // ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN
Our gathering meets at Cross Country Ski Headquarters (XC Ski HQ) at 9435 N. Cut Rd. in Roscommon, Michigan. Bring clothes for yoga, plus clothes for a day outdoors in late September (rain coat recommended, just in case!). If you’re not sure you have the right clothing, there is a large offering of outdoor apparel for sale at XC Ski HQ, and you are welcome to shop!

9:00am – 10:00am // YOGA
Kick off this glorious day with an all-levels yoga class with Mariah Frye, owner of Stone Turtle Yoga. Mats available.

10:30am – 11:30pm // BRUNCH
Refuel and connect with your fellow ladyfolk over a light brunch.

12:00pm – 4:30pm // KAYAK
Venture off with kayak expert Ella Swift and the gang to kayak the world-famous Mason Tract (Earnest Hemingway’s “Holy Waters”). Paddling this 3-hour stretch of the Au Sable River is truly a rare treat, and not for the Precious. We will break to stretch our legs about half-way through, but know this is deep woodland kayaking. Once we start, we’re shooting the full Mason Tract; there is no where to “pull out” until we get to the end. If you have a kayak, bring her. If you don’t, we’ve got you covered (small additional fee for your boat and gear rental — RESERVE EARLY!).

12:00pm – 1:30pm // HIKE
Don’t feel quite up for paddling the full Mason Tract? Totally cool: hike it instead! This posse of gals will hike the gorgeous first third of the Tract, and meet our kayakers from on shore at Castle Landing for a stretch and a snack. Then mosey on back to Base for the afternoon. Win win!

6:00pm – Cows Come Home // FEAST!
Dive into a bodacious banquet of scrumptious local foods by the bonfire — local trout, veggies, cheeses, fruits, baked goods, desserts — a feast fit for this magical Goddess Gathering! Silly State of MI rules stipulate we can’t serve libations as part of the deal… BUT! you can BYOB all you like. More the merrier!! The stars will be a twinklin’: it’s the Harvest Feast Day of Mabon! Magical music and dancing will be afoot!
